Next Friday we are celebrating World Environment Day 2020. This year, the theme of this special date is “Celebrate Biodiversity”.  

1 million species of plants and animals are in danger of extinction and this is a good moment to think about how important those species are and what we can do to protect them. Bees are among those endangered species. Here, you will find some information about these lovely creatures and how we can help them thrive.

A Message from the Gyre

What is going on in the North Pacific Ocean?

• A Gyre is a natural vortex of wind and currents that rotates in a clockwise direction in the northern hemisphere and counter-clockwise in the southern hemisphere. Gyres create a whirlpool effect so that plastic debris floating on the sea collects there, in the centre of the vortex.

• There are 5 major Gyres in the oceans worldwide. They all contain plastic and persistent organic pollutants (POPs) that resist photochemical, biological and chemical degradation.

• The North Pacific Gyre, also known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, is an "island" twice the size of Texas that we can find between the coast of California and Hawaii. 11 million tons (and growing) of floating plastic covers that area of nearly 5 million square miles.
